Testimonials

Chris came to have a drumming wellness session with our team at the Hilton Winnipeg Airport Suites in our outdoor space on a hot July afternoon.  While there was initially some hesitation and perhaps pessimism on behalf of a few our associates, it wasn’t long before Chris had the entire team smiling, laughing and actively engaging in playing the various drums and other instruments he had brought along.  Chris was organized, but at the same time relaxed and set a very inviting atmosphere for each of us to get involved and work in tandem with all of our teammates.  He was humorous, calm, mentoring and made us all think about how what he was teaching us about drums and collaborative music applied to our own occupations and daily interactions.  This was something that we all later realized was needed for us collectively and was great fun.  The goal of our day was to refocus our management team through inspiration, passion, collective thought, communication, embracing change and discussions about teamwork.  Our session with Chris at the midway point of the day was the preface to a very successful second half of the day.  Late in the afternoon, we had discussions about what motivates each of us and what were some of the best memories and events each of us have had at the hotel in the last 3 – 4 years.  Amongst our group of 16 Managers and Supervisors, at least half indicated the drum session from earlier in the day was easily one of the ones at the top of their list.  Multiple managers have asked me about buying a drum or drums for the back office area in the days that have followed!  Thank you Chris!

We enjoyed having Chris share his team building skills with us as we learned to drum together.  Our staff represent a spectrum of ages and experiences.  They all enjoyed our session and clearly indicated they wanted to do this again as a group.  The session helped to bridge gaps, everyone left smiling and wanting more.

We had such a great time with Chris for our Team Building!  Not only were we able to further strengthen our bond as a team but we were also able to release some stress and frustration!  Chris was a fantastic facilitator, you could really see the benefit of his years of musical experience combined with his knowledge of rhythmic therapies.

Frontier School Division provides educational services to 41 communities spread over three quarters of Manitoba’s geography.  Once a year our school board holds a joint planning meeting with the  division’s superintendents.  This year we had Chris lead us in a one hour drumming experience.  When booking Chris I had no idea what to expect. Within five minutes of the start of the workshop I knew I had made a good choice.  The workshop was participatory with each of the 20 participants having a drum to play.  Within 15 minutes the sounds of drums were reverberating throughout the room.  Instead of verbal communication Chris gave people an opportunity to speak to the group through the drum.  The workshop was filled with laughter and energy.
Perhaps the best endorsement I can give Chris is that upon the conclusion of the hour the trustees approached me about booking Chris for our annual conference. I am pleased that Chris has agreed.  I am looking forward to hear what kind of sounds 150 people can produce!

Of all the enjoyable days spent at the Charleswood Adult Day Club – one always stands out…

The Drums!

These afternoon sessions are outstanding, very well and patiently conducted by Chris  with his knowledge and good humor.  These sessions, with their vigor and vitality, bring out the best in us. They, by the hands-on activity, spontaneously cause great physical activity stimulating our (a) circulation, (b) brains (by sheer sensory enjoyment) and (c) group participation.

I remember watching a parade and having some feeling for the guy with the big bass drum.  I now realize the real enjoyment he was having, beating so vigorously to the music.  They always radiated good humor so…

BRING ON THE DRUMS!

Chris Scholl from DNA Rhythms introduced the drumming circle concept to us approximately two years ago. He provided a wide variety of African Drums and showed us hands on (pun intended) how to make music in our own way.

Because of Chris’s dedication and creative teaching methods we have come to witness the benefits of the drumming sessions.  For example, drumming with Chris appeared to lift the spirits while enhancing the confidence physically and mentally of the participants.

We continue to build on his teachings and look forward to drumming sessions with Chris on a regular basis.

Our participants have a wide range of disabilities from mental to physical.  Chris was able to engage all of our participants in the session. He was absolutely adept at bringing out the rhythm in all people.  We were, without a doubt, extremely satisfied with the level of facilitating that he showed.  Our participants were thrilled to the extreme.  There was a ‘calming’ feeling to his direction.  They had such renewed self-esteem, the smiles on their faces said it all.

Chris kept the interest of the whole class. He used good techniques for managing disruptive behaviours. The students were engaged 100% of the time! They loved the drumming sessions!

I just remember all the teachers sitting around at our TIA training session and all sounding so good when we put together our rhythms in a circle. Thanks Chris for a wonderful experience. Would love to do it again!

Thank you again for introducing us to Chris. He ranks right up there in the top three TIA experiences in the last 13 years. He has a wonderful sense for kids. He makes them feel safe, included and able, and it shows in their ability to connect and learn. In the words of Rita Pierson, “Kids don’t learn from people they don’t like.
